Is it possible to set time in hours instead of fractions of a day ?

Posted on August 22, 2013 by Louis BAYLE in

the purpose of setting time in fraction of days instead of hours is that users of the same team may not all work exactly the same amount of hours per day (for instance in France, depending on their contract, some people work 8h or 7.4h/day).
So if one works 10h/day he will still be able to set a complete day :1 = 10h, 0.5 = 5h, 0.2 = 2h, etc.
While a user having an 8h day will have : 1 = 8h, 0.5 = 4h, etc.

Note: In CodevTT v1.0.0 the complete list can be edited in config.ini and/or in the “admin/edit_team” page.
Some teams added a 0.125 entry in the list, because in an 8h day, 0.125 = 1h.

I know setting fractions of days is confusing at a first look, but you’ll see that it turns out to be much more flexible than hours. How would you know if a user has set a complete day ? Some days I work 8h and some others 10 or more. With day fractions it’s not a problem, and it is quite easy to estimate the percentage of a day spent on a task.

Now to answer the question: No, there is no way to input time in hours instead of days.

You cann discuss this topic in the forum.

Yet another project management software ?

Posted on February 2, 2013 by Louis BAYLE in

There are indeed many other solutions in project management, both in the opensource world as in proprietary softwares. Most of them are designed for managers, while developers have their own task management tools. There are finally very few solutions that make the bridge between the two worlds. The Manager must go fishing for information and feed the data to his management tools manualy. This is daunting and tedious, thus, data is not frequently updated. In addition, approximations are made during the data input which makes it difficult to assess the margin of error (you’d be surprised!).
Tools like JIRA and Redmine are positioned in this market. They are able to manage tasks, do basic timetracking and muster progress indicators, yet neither provide a real timesheet to enter the complete week activity and evaluate the information.
So there is a need for a tool that can be used by developers on a daily basis to transmit the information to the manager, and enable precise project follow-up in realtime.
